How to care for a leather handbag?

How to Take Proper Care of Your Handbag: Keep It in Perfect Condition
Proper care extends the life of your handbag. Follow these steps to keep your fashion piece in top shape:
-
Before the first use:
Treat the handbag with a quality leather cream or spray impregnation. An ideal choice is the Collonil brand, known for its gentleness and effectiveness.
-
Regular maintenance:
Occasionally wipe the handbag gently with a damp (not wet) cloth to avoid damaging the material.
-
Removing heavy soiling:
For larger stains, use a special cleaning foam designed specifically for leather, which gently treats the material and refreshes it. If you're unsure, feel free to contact us.
-
Reapplying impregnation:
After each cleaning, re-impregnate the handbag to protect it from moisture and stains.
Use only gentle cleaning agents specifically designed for leather care, such as Collonil. Before applying the product all over, test it on a less visible part of the handbag to avoid potential damage.
Practical Tips
- Light-colored leathers, especially white: They are more prone to staining and absorbing colors from the surroundings. Combine them with light-colored clothing that doesn't bleed, and protect them from contact with dark handbags.
- Beware of pens: Be careful with open pens, especially when taking them out of the handbag. Ink stains are almost impossible to remove.
- Storage: Always store the handbag stuffed with paper to maintain its shape. Keep it in a fabric cover (dust bag) and place it so that the handles face upward to prevent deformation. If you are sending the handbag to us for repair, pack it in a suitable box to protect it during transit.
- Keep the handbag in shape: Do not overload handbags — structured handbags should not be overfilled to the point of bulging, as this can alter their shape. This prevents damage to the reinforcement, handles, or stitching, and keeps the handbag’s original look and function intact.
- Vegetable-tanned leather: Nourish the leather regularly with cream or balm to keep it supple and prevent it from drying out.
- Goatskin: Do not impregnate this type of leather! Impregnation products are not needed for this material and may have a negative effect.
